KUALA LUMPUR: The two families of three babies were swapped at birth 20 years ago, believed to be due to negligence by staff of a hospital in Kota Bharu, Kelantan, have appointed a team of lawyers to advise and take necessary legal action.
Lawyer Samry Masri, on behalf of Messrs. Sam Masri & Associates, Messrs. Khairul Naim Rafidi, Messrs. Azam Rashid & Co, and Messrs. Mohd Nasir & Co said the lawyers were appointed in November last year.
KUALA LUMPUR (Bernama): Amending information on birth documents such as the certificate or card can be made if the information is found inaccurate or doubtful.
According to the National Registration Department (NRD), applicants who wish to correct the name, date or place of birth should provide supporting documents to prove a factual mistake in the earlier registration for consideration by the department.
However, according to NRD, any amendment of information in the personal identification document may have implications for the applicant, including those involving banking, education and health. NRD only handles the issues under its authority such as birth certificate and identification card.

KUALA LUMPUR: The incident of switching babies 20 years ago, believed due to the negligence of a hospital staff in Kota Bharu, Kelantan, can leave the effects of emotional trauma as well as disruptive behaviour, not only on all three victims but also to both families involved.
Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM) Registrar’s Office senior counselor, Siti Fatimah Abdul Ghani said all parties involved would need a long time to accept the fact of the incident.
“If the three victims and their families are ready to accept and think positively of what happened, the effects of trauma could be dealt within a shorter time.
