Belgium is number 19 in a ranking of 100 countries based on women’s achievements and opportunities. The Female Opportunity Index has been released this week in the lead-up to International Women’s Day on 8 March.
The data was put together by the Berlin-based N26 bank, which offers fully digital banking services. “As part of their mission to help people feel in control of their lives, and their finances, N26 commissioned the study to understand where they can champion change by looking into workplace achievements and the factors that drive female independence,” said the bank in a statement.
The results of the index, it continues, “celebrate the countries that are showing the greatest advancements, while bringing attention to those that could be supporting working women better in 2021 and beyond”.

Digital bank N26 hits more than 7m customers
The fintech player has nearly 200,000 customers in Ireland in a hotly contested market for digital banking.
German challenger bank N26 has surpassed 7m customers across Europe and the US in the highly competitive space for banking apps.
The digital bank added 2m customers in the last year as it prepares to expand its subscription services and business banking offerings.
In Ireland, it has just under 200,000 customers and it expects to reach that milestone in the first quarter of this year. Its users are predominantly aged between 20 and 34 but it has seen upticks in older age segments.
Dive Brief:
On Monday, Berlin, Germany-based neobank N26 appointed Dr. Jan Kemper as CFO, in what analysts consider a decisive move towards an IPO.
Kemper, whose PhD is in economics, brings decades of experience leading finance and operations at public and private companies. Most notably, he led online retailer Zalando SE s 2014 IPO and served as Group CFO of German entertainment company ProSiebenSat.1 Media SE between 2017 and 2019.
Kemper will report directly to N26 co-founder Maximilian Tayenthal, who had been serving as finance chief, but will now become co-CEO alongside Valentin Stalf. Jan s track record in scaling companies from start-up through IPO will be invaluable as we set in motion our plans for the future, Tayenthal said in a statement.
