Family overjoyed as stolen dog Ruby turns up in England

A delighted family said they were “absolutely thrilled” to be reunited with their stolen dog, who was found after a woman in England spotted her on a website. Bernard and Liz Ahern, from Midleton in Co Cork, got an early Christmas present when their beloved pet dog Ruby was safely brought home last month. Ruby had been stolen from her kennel last June and the family reported the theft to local gardaí in Midleton, who shared an appeal via the Garda Southern Region Facebook page. Their post was viewed by almost 100,000 people – including a woman in the England who had seen Ruby for sale on a website.

tom@TheCork.ie Gardaí have reunited stolen dog “Ruby” with her family in Midleton, Co Cork after being found in the UK In June 2020, Detective Gardaí in Midleton received a report that a springer spaniel had been stolen from her kennel in the greater Midleton area. Detectives began investigating and an appeal was made via the Garda Southern Region Facebook page in an attempt to find her. Garda Inspector Sean Leahy, “Ruby” with her owners Bernard & Liz Ahern, Detective Garda Michelle Quinn and Superintendent Adrian Gamble. The post was viewed by nearly 100,000 people and was spotted by an eagle eyed lady in the UK. The lady made contact after she had seen Ruby was up for sale on a website in the UK. With the assistance of Somerset Police, Ruby was recovered and made the some 500km journey via Rosslare back to Midleton in time for Christmas.
