Rear Admiral Seth Amoama has handed over the baton of command of the Ghana Navy to Rear Admiral Issah Yakubu following his elavation to the high office of Chief of Defence Staff (CDS).
Rear Admiral Amoama has been serving the Ghana Armed Forces (GAF) for the past 40 years, with two years as the Chief of Naval Staff (CNS).
President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo promoted him to become CDS following the retirement of Lt General Obed Akwa.
In line with the naval tradition, a farewell parade was held at the navy headquarters yesterday in his honour.
The occasion
Dressed in a ceremonial naval uniform, Rear Admiral Amoama was welcomed by the naval officers, representatives of various security agencies, government officials, as well as family, friends and well-wishers.
AFTER 46 years of successful service to the Ghana Armed Forces (GAF) and country, the Chief of Defence Staff (CDS), Lieutenant General Obed Boamah Akwa, finally bowed out of the military Friday.
President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has appointed the Chief of Naval Staff, Rear Admiral Seth Amoama, to act as Chief of Defence Staff.
The appointment according to a press release signed by Eugene Arhin, Acting Director of Communication at the presidency is effective from February 5, 2021, pending consultation with the yet-to-be-constituted Council of State.
“This appointment has been made following the completion of the tour of duty and subsequent retirement from the Ghana Armed Forces, on 5th February 2021, of the current Chief of Defence Staff, Lt. Gen. O.B Akwa. The President has expressed his gratitude to him for his dedicated and meritorious service to the Ghana Armed Forces and to the nation,” the statement said.
