lower keel line and choke line from the legacy blowout preventer and two coming from the keel and the choke line off the the stacking cap. what we ve got is the stak cap has been put in place before we finish building out the infrastructure to support the four platform production. we re somewhat limited right now. but we have the cap in place and are finishing the infrastructure to take us to the 60,000 to 80,000 production capacity. joining us tonight, the former oil industry executive who now covers the industry at dailyhurricane doc. bob cavnar. thanks for your time. could you elaborate on what admiral allen said about how those those lines in effect that would be going down to the cap might not be able to carry this kind of load. apparently getting this to the surface isn t as easy as some people might think. you know, lawrence, it is getting curiouser and curiouser the more i listen to both sides, either admiral allen or bp talk about this particular issue. this cap was design
will continue to monitor that moving forward. reporter: monitoring, watching every single step as they take here, wolf, so far so good. they are not seeing anything coming back to them that tells them that this well is not going to work. wolf? as we go forward right now, they re briefing thad allen is briefing, representing the federal government, but bp officials are briefing as well. right? reporter: bp is going to talk to us very shortly. we ve been getting technical briefings every morning. they did not have one this morning waiting for thad ail tone come out and talk first. there was a little back and forth between the two sides over the weekend. bp came out in the morning, gave a very confident report that the well is doing fine and then thad allen a little bit later was coming back saying we need all of these things, all these assurances from bp regarding monitoring and time tables about what you re going to do if you encounter a problem before we move forward. all of that
dangerous level we will need to take steps and we will do so. methane gas. is that a problem right now? is that leaking? if it is, what does that mean? well, what the scientists tell us is there may be some methane gas leaking. again, they don t think there is a problem but it is being monitored and analyzed. and what happens if it is leaking? well, if it turns out that it s leaking at a rate that s a problem then obviously containment is the alternative. you bring back in the vessels, the ships that can capture the oil. now, obviously that ll be a difficult decision because there will be the some leaking, some uncontrolled leaking for a couple of days. but clearly what we don t want are spills all over or something more catastrophic to happen so the scientists are on top of it, monitoring it. thad allen is fully engaged and we will be making appropriate decisions as we go forward. from what i m hearing you and thad allen and representatives of bp say, right now the hope is
leak. you have to be able to differ t differentiate. it sound like admiral allen will give him about four hours to do that. so right now we don t know how much of a concern this should be, right? that s right. i mean, they detected something that looks like an anomaly and they need to run it to ground as to whether it really is. even if it is seepage, the fact that they didn t say anything about the pressure dropping significantly indicates that it wouldn t be from a very big leak. so opening up and flowing and doing containment again is very viable method, i would suspect, to reduce any seepage, if there is any. is this something we should expect in this process at this point? for sure, we shouldn t be surprised that anomalies were detected. stuff is bublg frdoubling up fr sea floor all the time. it just happens to be bubbling up around this well which,
bore. someone could. the pressure could break it and then that would be a real problem. they don t want that to happen. they want to see the pressures stay where they are and they don t want to see oil leaking from someplace else. they did see some methane leaking from two mile ace way, but admiral allen says we do not think this has anything to do with breakage anywhere along the well bore. we do know some bubbles are coming up from around the top up here, from where the old blowout preventer was. it s not a perfect seal. we knew it wasn t a perfect seal the last time because oil was coming out. but now they re seeing a few methane bubbles and compared to what it is, wolf, it s still a win. and oil isn t spill into the gulf at least over the last three or four days. i brought in a frofs sprofes expert in this field. you were part of the
