The governor s press office rebuked the decision in a statement provided to The Palm Beach Post. It is unfortunate that Palm Beach County would rather engage in petty politics than honor the death of one of their county’s and state’s most prominent residents and a Presidential Medal of Freedom recipient, the statement said.
The town of Palm Beach had already lowered its flag Monday in the spirit of President Joe Biden s directive this week that all federal properties fly their flags at half-staff in honor of the 500,000 Americans who have died from COVID-19.
The governor s order came late Tuesday. Council President Maggie Zeidman said the town would have lowered the flag for the governor s order even if it wasn t already lowered for COVID victims.

COVID-19 testing is coming to another Florida airport.
A site, operated by health care company Helix, could open at Palm Beach International Airport as soon as Monday.
County Commissioners approved the plan on a 4 to 3 vote Tuesday, with one of the Yes votes coming from Melissa McKinlay, who says it would help travelers have a sense of comfort flying into the area. This is a good thing. Our tourism industry is getting slaughtered right now.
Those voting against the plan are concerned that while the testing center, operated by a the health care company Helix, will be required to notify the Department of Health of the test results, it would be up to the passenger to disclose that they re COVID-positive before boarding a plane.
