“It is high time to hike the compensation rates as the ESRA [Election Service Reform Act] Law provides for the review and adjustments of the rates every three years,” said Alliance of Concerned Teachers (ACT) in a statement hours after DepEd formally announced its request to the Commission on Elections (Comelec).
ACT said that the steep inflation since 2016 and the “greater risks that teachers will face in the 2022 elections in the context of a pandemic really calls for a significant increase in poll work honorarium and allowances.”
However, the group strongly asserted that that election service compensation must be made “tax-free so that teachers can get the full benefits of their service.”
