ROCHESTER, N.Y. (WHEC) There s been some concern about returning to in-person learning in the Rochester City School District because of a recent outbreak of positive COVID cases at a school in the district.
School No. 29 has had eight confirmed COVID cases in the last month, three of which the district learned about this week. RCSD administrators addressed the media on Thursday morning at Northeast College Preparatory High School in Rochester as students began to arrive for their first day back in almost a year. We had a number of cases at School 29, RCSD Chief Communications Officer Marisol Ramos-Lopez said. Out of an abundance of care and caution we decided to move to remote learning and disinfect and clean the school, and reopen on Monday.

The school district has confirmed a custodial staff member died this week. Eight positive cases have been reported in staff members over the past month. The school said it was informed of three cases on Tuesday, and that those three people were last at the school on Feb. 12.
