Government paid over GH¢300m in judgment debts between 2017-2022

In response to a Right to Information (RTI) request filed by JoyNews, the Ministry of Finance disclosed startling figures regarding judgment debt payments made by government of Ghana between 2017 and 2022.

2017-2022: Judgment debts swallow ¢300m

More than GH¢300 million has been paid by the Akufo-Addo government as judgment debt between 2017 and 2022, the Ministry of Finance has revealed in response to a Right to Information (RTI) request. The ministry disclosed in a letter dated August 2023 that GH¢300,385,317.52 was disbursed during this period as judgment debt to various individuals, companies and entities.
