The government’s intent to offload public sector units and banks will only result in the long-term loss of public wealth
The origin of the ongoing crisis in the Indian economy was the fateful night of November 8, 2016. Dr. Manmohan Singh’s prescient words in Parliament that demonetisation would lead to a 2% drop in the GDP were not heeded by Prime Minister Narendra Modi. On the contrary, a badly designed and hastily implemented flawed Goods and Services Tax (GST) followed, further devastating vast numbers of medium and small enterprises, as well as the vast informal sector of the economy. Together, these twin disasters robbed millions of their livelihoods and plunged the Indian economy into a prolonged slump that predates the COVID-19 pan

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: At a time when political parties are finalising their election manifesto, tribal activists have placed an Adivasi manifesto that focuses on issues faced by various tribal communities in the state in public domain. The tribal manifesto by a panel chaired by P V Rajagopal of Ekta Parishad proposes various measures that require urgent attention.
Going by the 2011 Census, tribals constitute about 1.45 per cent of the total population. Wayanad district with 31.24 per cent has the highest tribal population while Alappuzha with 1.36 per cent has the lowest. The scattered presence of tribals across the state in a decentralised manner has been a major factor when it comes to addressing socio-political and economic issues. About 10,0897 families stay in 4,645 colonies.
Pratap Simha, MP for Mysuru, on Wednesday instructed officials to deny the benefits meant for tribals to those Adivasis who convert to Christianity. He was participating in the District Development Co
Chief minister Hemant Soren takes part in the online Niti Aayog meeting chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, in Ranchi on Saturday
RANCHI: Chief minister Hemant Soren has urged Prime Minister Narendra Modi to include a separate column for tribals in the Census register for upcoming 16th Indian Census commencing from this year. Among several other demands made at Niti Ayog’s online meeting chaired by the PM in presence of many other CMs, Soren also stressed on the need to strengthen “Bharat” (villages) for India to become Atmanirbhar (self-reliant), increase in MNREGA wages to reduce rural distress and universalisation of old-age pension.

KOMARAM BHEEM: Many elderly Adivasis are waiting for their applications to get the nod for availing old-age pension benefits as they were earlier rejected with the officials stating ‘under age’ though they had crossed the eligible age to get pensions.
Many of them were happy when Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao announced that the state government would release new pensions soon and these elderly people pinned hopes that their applications will be considered, this time around.
