Nearly five months after the Central Crime Branch (CCB) uncovered a drug racket allegedly involving a nexus between the film industry and party organisers, the prime accused in the case, Shivaprakash Chippi, appeared before the police for questioning. The film producer and businessman is accused no. 1 in the case.
He had been on the run ever since the CCB registered an FIR against him and others, including Aditya Alva, the son of the late Minister Jeevaraj Alva and brother-in-law of Bollywood actor Vivek Oberoi. The police are yet to locate Alva.

As many as 16 people including actors Ragini Dwivedi and Sanjjanaa Galrani were arrested by the police as part of the investigation.
The Central Crime Branch of the Bengaluru City Police probing the Sandalwood drugs case confirmed the arrest of Vinay Kumar, an accused in the case who was “absconding since September.”
According to Joint Commissioner of Police (Crime) Sandeep Patil, the accused was arrested on Monday and was later produced before the court. “Vinay Kumar, one of the absconding accused in the drugs case registered at Cottonpet police station has been arrested. The court has sent him to police custody till December 28,” he said.

Bengaluru (Karnataka) [India], December 21 (ANI): A team of the Central Crime Branch (CCB) of the Bengaluru Police has arrested Vinay Kumar, one of the accused absconding in the Cottonpet drug case, officials said on Monday.
The case pertains to alleged drug abuse among VIP personalities including Kannada film actors Ragini, Sanjjanaa Galrani, party organiser Viren Khanna, realtor Rahul and others.
A few key accused in the case, including former Minister late Jeevaraj Alva s son Aditya Alva, are still at large. The CCB is investigating the drug abuse case after the Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) arrested three people hailing from Kerala in Bengaluru, who were allegedly supplying drugs to Kannada film actors and singers last month. The Central Crime Branch police, which has stepped up its probe in the drug racket with links to the Kannada film industry, arrested one of the 12 accused named in the case on Monday. According to officials, Vinay Kumar, who had been absconding for the past few months after he was named in the FIR, allegedly organised parties at well-known hotels in the city where he sold drugs.
“He did this at the behest of a key accused party organiser and socialite, Viren Khanna, whose bail application was recently rejected. Other accused in the case, including actress Ragini Dwivedi and second division clerk Ravishankar attended these parties,” said a senior CCB official.
