Colombo (News 1st); A Trial-at-Bar on Wednesday (17) ordered to remand 08 suspects with respect to the 2016 March Bond Scam until the 23rd of March 2021.
The matter was called up in the presence of High Court Judges D.Thotawatta, Manjula Thilakarathne & M. Irsadeen.
Senior Deputy Solicitor General Haripriya Jayasundara strongly opposed granting bail to the accused and the bench accepted the objections and ordered for the accused to be remanded.
On Wednesday (17) morning, Attorney General filed Indictments before the Trials-at-Bar hearing the Bond Scam cases pertaining to the 2016 March 29 & 31st Bond Auctions.
On the 18th of February 2021, the Chief Justice appointed two Trial-at-Bars to hear the Bond Scam cases involving two bond auctions in March 2016, following a request by the Attorney General.

COLOMBO (News 1st): The Chief Justice appointed two Trial-at-Bars to hear the Bond Scam cases involving two bond auctions in March 2016, following a request by the Attorney General, confirmed State Counsel Nishara Jayaratne, the coordinating officer to the Attorney General.
High Court Judges D.Thotawatta, Manjula Thilakarathne & M. Irsadeen were appointed to the first trial at bar & High Court Judges Amal Ranaraja, Namal Balalle & Adithya Patabandige were appointed to the second trial at bar to hear the Bond Scam cases.

COLOMBO (News 1st): A bail application filed on behalf of the Former Chairman of the Akuressa Pradeshiya Sabha Saruwa Liyanage Sunil, who is serving a 15-year prison sentence, was rejected by Colombo High Court Judge Aditya Patabendige on Thursday (07).
On the 17th of January 2020, the Former Chairman of the Akuressa Pradeshiya Sabha Saruwa Liyanage Sunil was sentenced to 15 years Rigorous Imprisonment by Colombo High Court Judge Adithya Patabandige for raping an under-aged girl in 2012.
Counsel for the Former Politico requested the court to grant bail to his client citing that an appeal against the sentence was filed with the Court of Appeal and that he should be given bail until a verdict on the appeal is delivered.
