Uttar Pradesh Congress chief, Ajay Rai, has claimed that the administration prevented him from meeting jailed Samajwadi Party leader, Azam Khan, due to pressure from the ruling BJP government. Rai stated that the Congress party stands by Khan and his family, who he believes are being targeted by the BJP.
The attempt by the state Congress president to meet the senior Samajwadi Party leader came amid strained relations between the two parties over seat sharing for the Madhya Pradesh polls.
Samajwadi Party leader Azam Khan was released from Sitapur district jail on Friday, a day after the Supreme Court granted him interim bail in an alleged case of cheating.
