Police kill six bandits in Niger gun battle The Punch

The Niger State Police Command on Saturday killed six bandits during a gun battle in Garkogo, Shiroro Local Government Area of the state.
A number of the bandits were also said to have also escaped with bullet wound, leaving behind their motorcycles.
The bandits were said to have launched attack s on some villages around Garkogo, but met their Waterloo in the hand of the riot policemen stationed at Garkogo twon, who had laid ambush for them on receiving information about their operation.
The bandits were said to have shot and killed a villager before the policemen engaged them in gun battle around 3.30am.

The PUNCH had reported the abduction of the boarding students by the bandits who were dressed in military uniforms on February 17, 2021.
A total of 27 students, three staff members, and 12 members of their family were abducted after the attack on the Kagara school in the early hours of Wednesday.
Niger State Governor, Abubakar Bello, had ordered the immediate closure of all boarding schools in the bandit-ravaged areas.

Residents of Brighter Road in Minna Niger State were thrown into confusion on Tuesday morning as irate youths who joined traders shopping in the area’s mini-market destroyed the private residence of the Niger State Deputy Governor in Minna, the Niger State capital.
The incident, according to a source, happened around 11.00am when the youths and the traders whose shops were demolished by the Urban Development Board unleashed their anger on the deputy governor’s house.
A source who craved anonymity told this medium that the marketers alleged that they were not given any quit notice by anybody but only to saw caterpillars demolishing people’s shops without allowing them to pack their goods and valuables that were inside.

Eighteen passengers on board one of the buses of the Niger State Transport Authority have been kidnapped by bandits.
The attack was said to have occurred around Yakila village in the Rafi Local Government Area of the state.
It was learnt that the bandits left a woman and her baby behind and went away with other 18 passengers.
The passengers were said to be heading for Minna, the state capital, from Kotangora when the incident happened.
The Director General of the Niger State Emergency Management Agency, Mallam Ibrahim Inga, confirmed the incident on the telephone.
