ISLAMABAD: The Supreme Court will consider the apology tendered by a local leader of the Pakistan Peoples Party, Masoodur Rehman Abbasi, facing contempt charges for his derogatory outburst against Chief Justice of Pakistan Gulzar Ahmed in the light of similar decisions taken against Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz lawmakers Danial Aziz, Talal Chaudhry and Nihal Hashmi.
The one-page handwritten apology in the Urdu language was read out by Additional Attorney General Sohail Mehmood on Friday before the court, as its copy was not made available to the bench.
Headed by Justice Umar Ata Bandial, the four-judge bench had taken up contempt hearing after taking suo motu notice of the matter.
ISLAMABAD: The federal government on Thursday denied and declared as misleading and baseless the assertions made by former judge of the Islamabad High Court (IHC) Shaukat Aziz Siddiqui about his meetings with Director General of Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI) Lt Gen Faiz Hameed.
“As specific allegations about certain officers of the State were made in the petition and read out in the court, on instructions it is placed before this Hon’ble Court, that the allegations made are baseless, misleading and therefore denied,” said Additional Attorney General Sohail Mehmood before a five-judge Supreme Court bench headed by Justice Umar Ata Bandial.

ISLAMABAD: The absence of a permanent law secretary came to the attention of the Supreme Court on Tuesday when it wondered why the federal law department was not being streamlined.
“We note that there is no permanent secretary law and the government should appoint a proper law secretary with career posting forthwith instead of pursuing ad hocism,” ordered Chief Justice of Pakistan Gulzar Ahmed, adding that this would help the law department function properly with continuity.
