The House of Representatives Committees on Petroleum Resources (Upstream), which is investigating the circumstances surrounding the revocation and award of oil mining leases (OML), has given the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC), Addax Petroleum Company Limited and Santex Nigeria Limited two-week ultimatum to appear before it and explain alleged irregularities in the corporations.
The Chairman of the committee, Hon. Sarki Ada, issued the ultimatum at the commencement of the hearing, following the refusal of NNPC and others to honour invitations or reply letters.
The lawmaker said the committee had asked for relevant documents to investigate the activities of the NNPC, and that the corporation had refused to oblige the committee.

The House of Representatives Committee on Petroleum Resources(Upstream), Thursday, threatened to summon President Muhammadu Buhari over circumstances leading to the revocation and re-award of Oil Mining Leases(OML).
The Chairman of the Committee, Rep. Musa Sarki Adar, issued the warning while interacting with the Minister of State for Petroleum Resources, Chief Timipre Sylva, on the alleged wrongful revocation of Oil Licenses and re-issue to other companies.
The committee issued the warning in response to the failure of Nigeria National Petroleum Corporation, NNPC, Addax Petroleum Company Limited, Kaztec Engineering Limited, and Salvic Petroleum Limited, to honour their invitation by the panel and make their submissions on the subject.
Following SINOPEC-ADDAX alleged breach of terms and conditions of the 2000/2001 fiscal incentive package, the Federal Government might have lost over N1.2tr in oil revenues.
In a statement issued in Calabar at weekend, representative of Cross River South Senatorial District in the Senate, Gershom Bassey, said he earlier sponsored a motion in which he drew Federal Government’s attention to the issue.
He said the Senate mandated its Committee on Petroleum Upstream and Committee on Gas “to scrutinise the 2000/2001 Fiscal Incentive Package and other Federal Government’s agreements with SINOPEC-Addax Petroleum Company with a view to ascertaining the level of its compliance with the agreements and make recommendations.”
