he clearly has the legal authority under section 212 of the immigration and nationality act that congress gave the president. he has the authority in the interest of national security to suspend asylum entry or to add restrictions and so he sees this as a national security threat many of us do so his action right now is perfectly appropriate and we support it. trish: okay so there is this incoming government in mexico that says no, we haven t struck any kind of asylum deal. does it even matter? do we even need any kind of areas deal with mexico? can t we say all right, we re changing our policy this is how it s going to be? we can. now we re very compassionate nation but we re also a nation of laws and so we ve got to enforce those laws. we want to allow people refuge when they re seeking legitimate prosecution when they re in legitimate fear, for their family s lives or their own lives that s the way our legal standard has been over the years , but its been abused in
deliberations over immigration. why would the gun debate be pulled into that? joe, as senators try to fix the immigration bill to make the changes that it would need to get a big vote or even to pass the senate, senators who want to add restrictions on guns are getting a second bite at that senator. blumenthal, democrat of connecticut, is going to push this. they are talking about adding restrictions on immigrants who could get guns. right now, the restrictions apply to illegal immigrants and they are talking about some amendments that would add restrictions for immigrants who are here legally but based on their immigration rights. will try to push their ideas including adding citizenship for foreign-born gay partners. so everybody who has an issue
when people have looked into this before, there are very few cases where someone impersonates someone else to vote. what donald trump could find, as he enlists a study like this, is that there are voter registration fraud instances, where people are registered to vote who shouldn t be allowed to register or people are registered in multiple places. that s the kind of thing that could give republicans fodder to crack down on voter registration rules and add restrictions. this is the kind of thing they ve lobbied for in years past that has caused ire among some democrats. we ll see if that s the direction they re going. once again, no evidence that 3 to 5 million people voted illegally. it does not exist. voter registration is not actual votes. that s the big distinction that s gotten blended together in these conversations. reporter: exactly. on the other big topic of the day, sara, what exactly do we know about these executive actions the president will be signing? reporter: th
