Over the years, the three gencos signed SPPAs, amending several clauses of the original PPAs. EPGL is currently in the process of negotiating the terms for its fifth SPPA, said a GERC official.
Gujarat government had denied the allegation after state Congress chief Shaktisinh Gohil had on Saturday raised the issue and claimed that the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) government had made an "excess payment of Rs 3,900 crore" to the company.
Hinting at an energy scam in Gujarat, the state Congress has demanded an impartial probe into the matter. The allegations indicate that Gujarat Urja Vikas Nigam Ltd (GUVNL) has paid ₹13,082 cr to Adani Power Mundra Limited (APMuL), whereas the amount due was only ₹9,902 cr. This would amount to an unaccounted payment of ₹3,900 crore, which would eventually be paid by the citizens of Gujarat, with highly-priced electricity.
