Reps’ C’mte gives EFCC nod to dispose seized properties

House of Representatives Adhoc Committee on Abandoned Properties has given its nod for the Economic and Financial Crime Commission (EFCC) to sell seized properties.
Chairman of the Adhoc Committee, Rep Ademorin Kuye at the ongoing investigative hearing on sales of abandoned properties gave the approval.
The committee reasoned that the properties would be losing their value of not put into good use.
He recalled the Federal Government decision to dispose of the properties and help to fund the 2021 budget from the proceeds.
Kuye however warned EFCC against selling properties that were still under prosecution, saying that due diligence must be done on them.

The judgment, which was delivered by Justice Adamu Bello on July 2, 2013, stated that it was mandatory for the President to obtain the confirmation of the National Assembly for the appointment of the service chiefs.
But the President, who on Tuesday appointed service chiefs including the Chief of Defence Staff, Major General Lucky Irabor; the Chief of Army Staff, Major General Ibrahim Attahiru; the Chief of Naval Staff, Rear Admiral A.Z Gambo, and the Chief of Air Staff, Air-Vice Marshal Isiaka Amao, did not seek the National Assembly’s approval.

President Muhammadu Buhari yesterday met with the new service chiefs, urging them to concentrate their efforts on helping his administration to deliver on its electoral pledge to make Nigeria a safer place for citizens to live.
A statement by the president’s media adviser, Mr. Femi Adesina, quoted Buhari as congratulating the new appointees, and telling them that their job is well cut out for them given the insecurity wracking the nation.

President Muhammadu Buhari violated the Nigerian Constitution and the Armed Forces Act by appointing new service chiefs without the approval of the National Assembly, lawyers have said.
Mr Buhari, on Tuesday, appointed Lucky Irabor, a major general, as the new chief of defence staff.
He also appointed Ibrahim Attahiru, a major general, as the chief of army staff; Auwal Gambo, a rear admiral, as the chief of naval staff, and Isiaka Amao, an air vice marshal, as the chief of air staff.
