The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has smashed drug syndicates in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nasarawa and Edo States in a major clampdown during the Easter.
In Nasarawa State, a notorious and most wanted drug baron, Sami Ashoko, was nabbed during the Easter festive season.
His warehouse filled with skunk was also raided and 100 bags of the illicit drug weighing 1,095.3 kilogrammes seized.
In Edo State, during the same period, members of another cartel were arrested in Iyamho, Etsako West Local Government Area of the state with their illicit consignment weighing 1,330 kilogrammes planned to be transported to Bauchi State seized.

The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has apprehended Sami Ashoko, a wanted drug baron in the Shinge area of Nasarawa.
The operatives raided his warehouse filled with skunk. 100 bags of the illicit drug weighing 1,095.3kg were seized.
NDLEA spokesman, in a statement on Tuesday, said Ashoko was nabbed during the Easter holidays.
Ashoko, 39, who hails from Ibilo in the Akoko Edo area of Edo, was intercepted after a tip off by intelligence sources.
NDLEA Commander in Nasarawa, Justice Arinze, was quoted as saying Ashoko had been on the agency’s watch list.
“This seizure has beaten the previous record of 45 bags weighing about half ton recovered in January 2021. It is the highest singular seizure of cannabis since the inception of the Command in 1999.”

It was indeed a bleak Easter for the most wanted drug baron in Nasarawa state, Sami Ashoko as he did not only spend the festive season in custody, his warehouse filled with skunk was also raided and 100 bags of the illicit drug weighing 1,095.3kg seized.
Same fate also befell members of another cartel who were arrested in Iyamho, Etsako West Local Government area of Edo state and their illicit consignment weighing 1,330kg meant for Bauchi state equally seized.
According to him, both syndicates were busted on Friday while trying to distribute their illegal substances for the Easter sales.
“In Nasarawa, Ashoko, 39, who hails from Ibilo in Akoko Edo area of Edo State, was arrested in Shinge, Lafia based on actionable intelligence.
“A team of operatives had stormed his warehouse in Lafia and recovered 100 bags of cannabis weighing about 1.1 tons or 1095.3 kg,” Babafemi said.
According to the Commander, Nasarawa State Command of the NDLEA, Mr Justice Arinze, “Sami Ashoko is the most wanted drug baron who has been on our watch list in Nasarawa State.
“This seizure has beaten the previous record of 45 bags weighing about half a ton recovered in January 2021 as the highest singular seizure of cannabis since the inception of the command in 1999.
Nigeria’s representatives have arrived in Marwa, in Cameroon for the repatriation of 9,800 Nigerian refugees.
The 9,800 are those in the first phase of the repatriation from Cameroon out of 46,000 Nigerians taking refuge in Minawao camp in Central Africa country.
A statement on Wednesday by Spokesman for the Borno State Governor Professor Babagana Zulum, Mallam Isa Gusau, said the governor had arrived Marwa in Cameroon alongside officials of the Federal Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs, Disaster Management and Social Development towards the voluntary repatriation of 9,800 Nigerians of Borno origin, who are among the 46,000 Nigerians taking refuge in Minawao camp in Cameroon.
He said the 9,800 constitute the first batch of citizens who have shown willingness to be evacuated to resettlement houses built by the Borno State Government in Bama and Banki towns.
