QUINCY – The Quincy Animal Shelter is one of only a handful of shelters with larger facilities in Grant and Adams County, alongside Adams County Pet Rescue and Grant County Animal Outreach, and faces the same issues other shelters in the area do.
The shelter’s manager, Jessica Kiehn, spoke about the facility’s operations and dealing with increasing numbers of stray animals across the Columbia Basin.
OTHELLO The Othello City Council voted unanimously during Monday evening’s regular meeting to enter into a one-year contract for dog sheltering services with Hands 'N Paws Animal Assistance. The council also approved the purchase of three large kennels for the city’s temporary animal control building.
Othello Mayor Shawn Logan introduced the contract and purchase requests.
“The services that (Hands 'N Paws) would provide in essence are the same services that we were in the contract with Adams County Pet Rescue for because we offered them the same contract,” Logan said. “The only difference is they decided to accept it.”
The city is still responsible for certain animal control services under the new contract.
As a community, we’re still struggling in the Columbia Basin to take care of the animals in our communities. While some progress has been made as funding becomes available to establish a new shelter for Grant County Animal Outreach, funding to ensure the operations of Adams County Pet Rescue are still a bit up in the air.
OTHELLO – The Othello City Council’s regular meeting Monday featured the approval of improvements to a Public Works building for temporary dog housing, Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist Week and new legal counsel, as well as discussion of a donation to the city and cargo container ordinances.
