State and federal laws prohibit people convicted of Domestic Abuse from possessing firearms but these laws dont always keep guns out of the wrong hands. Since the law passed in 2010, 80 iowans have been convicted for violating it. It. According to court documents,on january 29 mothershed entered a home in the 2200 block of pierce street where he allegedly stole guns and pistol whipped the victim open a safe that contained several guns. That spree continued, on february 5th he he broke into a residence with a crowbar in the 4500 block of polk street where he was confronted by the homeowner and mothershed shot out the back window of the home to escape and fired a shot at a women. February 6th, he lured a victim to valley park apartments, and held her at gunpoint. Then on february 7th, he pulled a 40caliber handgun, shooting officer ryan moritz on the inner thigh of his left leg. Mothersheds charges, each a class b felony, carry a maximum sentence of 25 years in prison. A dream the family couldnt wake up from. Forced to celebrate life, and grieve death, at the same time. We would have to ask a nurse to go and get our daughters body from the morgue, or wherever they were keeping her cooled, Jeremy Cotter said. Precious time for a grieving family.
