KNOXVILLE: A Tennessee police officer wounded during a confrontation with a student inside a high school bathroom was not shot by the student s gun, authorities said on Wednesday (Apr 14), contradicting earlier law enforcement reports that the teenager fired and hit the officer.
The new report appears to indicate that the officer was shot by police during a struggle.

Who was Tennessee student Anthony J Thompson Jr?
Anthony J Thompson Jr, who was 18-years-old, was a student of Austin-East Magnet High School in Knoxville, Tennessee.
He was fatally shot by police on the afternoon of April 14.
Thompson Jr is one of several students of the high school to have been a victim of a shooting in recent months.
DAG Allen responded in a press conference on Thursday. I understand that the community, the press, and citizens want to see the body camera video in this case. I understand as a human being, she said. But I stand here as the elected District Attorney General whose job it is to protect the potential criminal integrity of this case.
Allen said she agreed that the community has a right to see the footage, but it s all about timing.
Right now, less than 72 hours after the shooting, the TBI is still collecting evidence and conducting interviews in this case. Releasing the video too early could taint that process and any possible criminal prosecution.
Officer Brian Baldwin
Willson, who was wounded in the shooting, has been with KPD since January 2001 and was currently serving as the School Resource Officer at Austin-East Magnet High School, KPD said.
KPD also mentioned that Lieutenant Cash has been with KPD since October 2001 and that Clabough has been with KPD since February 2017.
Baldwin has been with the department since October 2004, KPD said.
According to a press release by KPD, Cash, Clabough, and Baldwin are all assigned to the East District patrol.
Willson is continuing to recover from his injuries at the UT Medical Center.
Per departmental policy, the involved officers have been placed on temporary administrative leave, KPD said.
