Trial of Garrett woman charged with murder rescheduled

GARRETT — The trial of a Garrett woman who is accused of killing her husband has been rescheduled from September to March of 2022. Michelle Converset of the 1100 block of South Franklin Street, was arrested May 29, 2020, at 7:55 p.m. She is charged with murder and aggravated battery. Converset appeared in DeKalb Superior Court I for a final pre-trial conference Tuesday. Her five-day jury trial had been scheduled to begin Sept. 13. Judge Adam Squiller noted a defendant’s motion for continuance had been filed Tuesday. In the motion, Converset’s attorneys, Jeffrey Terrill and Jeffrey Stineburg, said in preparation for the trial, the defense has hired an expert witness, Dr. Gregory Davis, to testify at trial.

Two sentenced for criminal offenses

AUBURN — Two people were sentenced for criminal offenses during hearings in DeKalb Superior Court I Monday and Wednesday. In a hearing Monday, Judge Adam Squiller sentenced Darynn Sue Vinson of the 6200 block of C.R. 35, Auburn, to 60 days in jail, all suspended except four days, for disorderly conduct, a Class B misdemeanor, public intoxication, a Class B misdemeanor, and being a minor consuming alcohol, a Class C misdemeanor. She received credit for two days served while the case was pending. She was placed on probation for 365 days and was fined $100. In a hearing Wednesday, Jimmy D. Taylor of the 500 block of Smoky Crossing Way, Seymour, Tennessee, was fined $500 by Senior Judge David Laur for resisting law enforcement, a Class A misdemeanor.

Courtney Hiles of East Edgewater Drive, Garrett, was fined $100 for driving while suspended, a Class A misdemeanor. Harold Hollis of the 5700 block of Sutton Road, Britton, Michigan, was sentenced to 540 days in jail, all suspended except 90 days, and was placed on probation for 450 days, for possession of methamphetamine, a Level 6 felony. If he completes 90 days of home detention on probation, that will satisfy the executed sentence. Anthony Combs of the 5800 block of Kimberly Road, Fort Wayne, was sentenced to 365 days of incarceration for possession of methamphetamine, a Level 6 felony.

William Alleshouse of the 400 block of Michigan Avenue, Auburn, was fined $250 for driving while suspended, a Class A misdemeanor. Ibeth Medina-Ortiz of the 2700 block of Country Club Mobile Housing, Warsaw, received a 30-day suspended sentence, one year of probation, and was fined $100 for operating a vehicle while intoxicated, a Class A misdemeanor. Kaleb Glatt of the 1300 block of Bedford Drive, New Haven, received a pair of one year sentences for resisting law enforcement, a Level 6 felony, and theft, a Class A misdemeanor. The sentences will be served at the same time. He received credit for 83 days served in jail while the case was pending.
