New Yorkers still back making to-go cocktails permanent, survey says
Just as Gov. Andrew Cuomo’s executive order allowing the sale of alcohol with takeout or delivery orders expires on June 5, the New York State Restaurant Association published a survey that reports a majority of state residents support making the move permanent. While the temporary measure has been renewed several times in the past year, the survey shows ongoing support of legalizing to-go cocktails a silver lining of the pandemic that New Yorkers have embraced.
The state’s commercial eviction moratorium has been extended until August 31
Restaurants, bars, and other small businesses in New York state are now protected from eviction through August 31, Gov. Andrew Cuomo announced on Tuesday. Under the legislation, business owners with fewer than 50 employees cannot be evicted, so long as they provide documentation that they have faced financial hardship during the pandemic.
This is at least the seventh time the governor has extended the state’s temporary eviction moratorium since the start of the coronavirus pandemic in March 2020. The latest round of protections expired on May 1, although a nationwide moratorium on evictions issued by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention remains in place until June 30.

Tom Colicchio to debut Italian restaurant in former Craftbar space
On the heels of the latest season debut of
Top Chef, Tom Colicchio is turning the space of his former restaurant Craftbar which closed in 2017 at 47 East 19th Street into his first-ever Italian restaurant on Wednesday, April 28. Vallata, a “Roman-inspired neighborhood trattoria,” is a pop-up of sorts and there’s no end date for the restaurant, according to a Crafted Hospitality spokesperson.
