Cross country to compete in OVC Championship

Cross country to compete in OVC Championship Posted By: Simon Elfrink February 28, 2021 Rachel Essner ressner1@murraystate.edu After competing in three meets this season, the Racer cross country teams will finish their season by running in the OVC Championship meet on Monday, March 1.  In the 2019 season, the men’s team finished sixth while the women finished eighth overall in the OVC Championship. Emma Graf was a freshman in the 2019 season when she finished 26th overall and first for the Racers at 18:57.5. The now-juniors Emma Creviston and Dani Wright followed Graf, finishing at 19:18.9 and 19:21.9, respectively, and finished 40th and 44th.  Current senior Caleb Kawasaki was the top finisher for the Racers in last year’s OVC Championship for the men, with a time of 25:34.7, good for 18th place.

(Photo courtesy of Racer Athletics) Posted By: Simon Elfrink February 3, 2021 Rachel Essner ressner1@murraystate.edu The Murray State cross country team will return home to compete in the Murray State Open on Friday, Feb. 5, at 2 p.m. at Miller Memorial Golf Course. This will be the second meet of the season, following the Belmont Open as well as the Racers’ home opener.  In the last meet on Jan. 24 at Belmont, the women’s team finished in sixth and the men finished seventh with five Racers recording a personal record.

Six Racers place first in Thundering Herd Invite Posted By: Simon Elfrink February 2, 2021 Andrea Jameson ajameson1@murraystate.edu On Saturday, Jan. 30, the Murray State track and field team competed in the Thundering Herd Invite hosted by Marshall University. Six Racers placed first in the competition while eight others posted personal bests during the event.  Murray State featured several freshmen showing their mettle at the collegiate level. Freshman Teliyah James finished with a 60 in the 200 and a personal record in fourth place with an overall score of 25.13 for her first collegiate meet with Murray State.  Junior Brooke Misukonis tied for fourth with freshman Ella Siebenberger in the event with a height of 3.45m in the pole-vault.

Cross country opens 2021 at Belmont Posted By: Simon Elfrink January 26, 2021 Rachel Essner ressner1@murraystate.edu After waiting for more than a year to compete, the Murray State men’s and women’s cross country teams kicked off their 2021 season opener on Sunday, Jan. 24, at Belmont University.  The meet consisted of 12 teams, including Belmont University, Austin Peay State University, Tennessee Tech University, Tennessee State University and Lipscomb University.  Junior Dani Wright, with a time of 18:20.257, and sophomores Kristin Dent (19:43.589) and Jessica Stein (19:33.219) recorded personal records, finishing 21st, 33rd and 34th, respectively, while junior Emma Creviston finished 31st with a time of 19:19.618 in the women’s 5K.

Track starts 2021 at Boo Rogers Combine Events Posted By: Simon Elfrink January 19, 2021 Simon Elfrink selfrink@murraystate.edu Four members of Murray State track and field competed at the Boo Rogers Combine Events in Pittsburg, Kansas, on Friday, Jan. 15, to kick off the 2021 season.  Redshirt junior Jessikha Ribeiro finished fifth among 13 competitors in the pentathlon with 3117 points, while sophomore Jenna Pauly placed eighth with a score of 2900. Sophomore Meghan Fletcher finished tenth overall, but took a first place victory during the high jump competition with a mark of 1.63m. Ribeiro and Pauly tied for second in the high jump at 1.60m each. Sophomore Anna Vollet’s high jump mark was 1.42m.
