Thunda, Maze Surge Late At Aces | Standardbred Canada

A trio of feature events headlined the Thursday night (June 3) card at Running Aces, including two divisions of the Minnesota-sired sophomore pace. The $15,000 “A” division featured a rematch of last week’s top two finishers: SD Watchmenow (Brian Detgen) took the top prize in the last outing and was a slight wagering favourite to repeat in this week’s contest, sent off as the 4-5 choice. SD Watchmenow was fastest from the gate and easily found the lead from post four, while Alilthundadownunda (Nick Roland) left alertly from post two to secure pocket position. Stiff Test Awaits Bordogna In Feature | Standardbred Canada

Against all odds, star trotter Bordogna makes his Running Aces return in the feature race on opening night May 16 (Sunday). The five-year-old Trixton stallion will take on five rivals in the $11,000 Open Handicap Trot, which anchors the opening night card in race six on the program. It is a much-anticipated return for Bordogna, as he will be making his first Aces appearance since a late-season injury last year that left him blind in one eye, and sidelined him from the races. Bordogna won seven of 10 races last year, set a Running Aces track record, and a Wisconsin state record, while earning $23,940. Justin Anfinson is the trainer for owners Cathy Dessert and Ken Stauffer, and the team is confident that “Bo” is more than ready for his return to Aces to take on the best trotters around. He picked up two wins at the Cannon Falls fair track earlier this month to start his 2021 campaign, and looked very sharp in doing so.
