CLEVELAND, Ohio The Justice Department on Thursday stepped into a long-simmering dispute between Cleveland and a police oversight panel, asking a judge to force the city to turn over documents the group requested months ago.
The Cleveland Community Police Commission requested basic information from the city and the police department and have been turned down or have dealt with excessive delays, according to a filing in U.S. District Court in Cleveland.
Prosecutors want Senior U.S. District Judge Solomon Oliver to sign an order requiring that the city and police department turn over the information within 14 days. Oliver is overseeing the reform process.
