UPGRADES INEVITABLE: For many in-cab monitors, there is a need for software upgrades before the start of planting season. Data from last year needs to be archived as well. Here is the right way to dump display data before the planting season starts.
When it comes to a preseason planting checklist, many farmers miss the data management and organization box.
“One of the big mistakes farmers make before even filling the planter is not checking the software in the tractor cab,” says Adam Daugherty, technical communicator with Ziegler Ag Equipment.
Daugherty says farmers need to either look at the manufacturers website or visit their dealer for the latest software upgrades. Most require a USB storage device to upload it from the home computer and then to the monitor in the tractor cab.

When it comes to farming, Brad Niensteadt says the planter is the most important piece of equipment on the farm.
“If you don t get the seed in the ground, you don t need a sprayer and a combine and everything else on down the line,” he says, “so it s critical to spend a lot of time and extra time on the planter to make sure that everything is good to go, not only for good performance, but for efficiency.”
