In 2015, he received the roy porter medal for lifetime contribution to the history of medicine. In 2016, the eric ralston award of a lifetime contribution to the history of psychiatry. His previous books include madness and civilization, hysteria the disturbing history, and madhouse a tragic tale of mega mania and modern medicine.
