The Ministry of Health is investigating reports over the alleged absence of Savusavu Hospital staff in the Emergency Room which was highlighted by the Ramatau family.
Ministry’s permanent secretary Dr James Fong confirmed the investigation has started and a report would be channeled through the risk mitigation process.
Nacanieli Ramatau, husband of the late Adalyn Ramatau told this newspaper that no one was in the ER when they rushed his wife to the hospital last Sunday morning.

Fiji’s Health Minister Dr Ifereimi Waqainabete says his medical staff were present at the Savusavu Hospital when Adalyn Ramatau was brought in last Sunday.
He made the comment in light of claims made by a family member that there were no doctors or medical staff to attend to Mrs Ramatau when she arrived at the hospital.
“There was discussion that they were not there, but they were actually there. The nurses and the doctor were there,” Dr Waqainabete said.
He said the necessities were instituted to the patients and that the medical staff gave their best.
