A Mass Shooting Hits Close To Home: The Week In Review From WFAE

Lesslie was one of six people including his wife and two juvenile grandchildren shot to death at his home Wednesday in York County. The person authorities suspect in the slayings died after apparently reportedly shooting himself. In the past few weeks, there have been mass shootings in metro Atlanta and Boulder, Colorado. And now another one hit especially close to home in Charlotte this week when six people were shot and killed in nearby Rock Hill, South Carolina. Prominent doctor Robert Lesslie, his wife, Barbara, their two grandchildren and two workers at their house all were killed Wednesday evening. Authorities say former NFL player Phillip Adams shot them all before taking his own life early Thursday morning.

WCNC Charlotte partners with area Boy Scouts for Scouting For Food

Boy Scouts of America is kicking-off their annual ‘Scouting for Food’ campaign this month. On Jan. 30, Boy Scouts went door-to-door hanging door tags, announcing the start of their food-drive in eight counties including Mecklenburg, York, Lancaster, Anson, Union, Cabarrus, Rowan and Stanly. The ‘Scouting for Food’ campaign asks people to donate non-perishable food items in an effort to refill empty pantry shelves in Mecklenburg and surrounding counties to make sure no one goes hungry. “We are thrilled to be conducting our largest ever food drive that we do annually with the Mecklenburg County Council for Boy Scouts,” Tina Postel, executive director for Loaves & Fishes food pantry in Mecklenburg County, said.

The Ada Jenkins Center in Davidson will hold a “gathering of prayer, song, and community” at 5 pm today in the wake of the events yesterday at the US Capitol in Washington DC. The goal, according to Ada Jenkins CEO Harold Rice, is to affirm unity and care for our neighbors and each other. Speakers include Rabbi David Lipper of Temple Kol Tikvah in Davidson, Rev. Tracey Mattison Brandon of Gethsemane Baptist Church and , CEO of the Ada Jenkins Center.
