Content provided by Last updated: 25/02 - 20:40 With the second wave of COVID-19 outbreak in Nigeria, WHO is supporting government to leverage on the existing  Auto-Visual Acute Flaccid Paralysis Detection and Reporting (AVADAR) system to strengthen community-based surveillance for the disease. In 731 wards across eleven (11) COVID-19 high risk states, WHO is supporting engagement of more than 670 AVADAR informants to conduct house-to-house COVID-19 surveillance and reporting of suspected COVID-19 cases, sensitize and support contact tracing in the communities.  So far, the informants have provided more than 85 000 households with COVID 19 preventive messages in Kaduna, Kano, Jigawa, Katsina, Sokoto, Zamfara, Kebbi, Bauchi, Taraba, Borno and Yobe states.

This is the Department of Health (DOH) 7’s call to the public as its Measles Rubella and Oral Polio Vaccine Supplemental Immunization Activity (MR-OPV SIA) program is on its second phase that showed coverage way below the agency’s target. As of Feb. 18, 2021, Cebu City logged the lowest coverage for measles rubella SIA at 39.28 percent, or 34,533 were vaccinated out of the 87,921 targeted children. The same thing can be said of the polio jab rollout, which is only at 39.29 percent, which means only 40,791 children were inoculated, out of the 103,819 target. Cebu Province, meanwhile, is also still halfway, at 58.23 percent, or only 163,099 of the 280,080 target.

DOH, LGUs and Partners to Conduct Phase 2 of Month-long Nationwide MR-OPV SIA Starting February 1 Format Joint press release CAVITE, Philippines – After a successful nationwide Measles Rubella and Oral Polio Vaccine Supplemental Immunization Activity (MR-OPV SIA) Phase I last year in the Mindanao, Cordillera, Ilocos, Cagayan Valley, MIMAROPA and Bicol Regions with a coverage of 93% for Measles Rubella (MR) Vaccine and 89% for Oral Polio Vaccine (OPV), the Phase 2 of the vaccination campaign will be conducted from February 1 to 28, 2021 in the Visayas Regions, National Capital Region, Central Luzon and CALABARZON. The Phase 2 MR-OPV SIA aims to vaccinate 5.1 million 9-59 months old children for the Measles Rubella (MR) vaccine and 4.8 million children 0-59 months old for Oral Polio vaccine (OPV).
