Orange Tree Theatre will reopen next month with new season

© Helen Murray The Orange Tree Theatre in Richmond will reopen on 22 May with a new season of work. Reopening the venue will be two Bernard Shaw shorts, How He Lied to Her Husband and Overrulled. Directed by the venue s artistic director Paul Miller, the pieces have design by Simon Daw with lighting design by Mark Doubleday. Casting is to be revealed. The shows play from 22 May to 26 June, with social distancing in place. The previously revealed revival of Bryony Lavery s Last Easter, directed by Tinuke Craig, will play from 3 July to 7 August. Casting is again to be revealed, with the piece designed by Hannah Wolfe, lighting design by Elliot Griggs and sound design by Anna Clock.

Artistic director Natalie Ibu has unveiled her first season at Northern Stage. Explaining how it feels to be both joining an organisation and debuting a first season during a pandemic, Ibu stated: But – whilst a surprise twist – it s provided a brilliant opportunity to hit the ground running, collaborating with artists, with place, with the personal and the political to meet audiences wherever they are and then lead them back to our building when it s safe to do so. Actors Touring Company And Northern Stage Present DEAR TOMORROW

Following the success of last Autumn s Dear Tomorrow, part of The Signal Fires project which celebrated the vibrancy of touring theatre across the UK, Actors Touring Company (ATC) has joined forces with Northern Stage for Dear Tomorrow - Hope From Home. Running with one letter a day from February 22nd to 27th, the project comprises six letters of hope and optimism in these uncertain times, commissioned from six writers and performed digitally by six actors. The project extends the original concept of Dear Tomorrow, which was inspired by the American writer James Baldwin s powerful and emotive 1963 Letter To My Nephew and comprised three letters from three writers from around the globe sent to participants to perform for their own audiences, either at home or remotely.
