貴源治に大麻使用の「うわさ話」が浮上したため、１８日の千秋楽後、コンプライアンス部長の尾車親方（元小関琴風）らと面談。貴源治はその席で「大麻成分が含まれているＣＢＤオイルという痛み止めを使用している」「あがり症を抑えるために食べているグミにも大麻成分が入っていると聞いた」などと説明したが、１９日に薬物検査（尿検査）を行い陽性と判定。その後の聞き取りに大麻たばこ１本を吸ったことを認めたという。
坂上は「僕さグミ、結構今オレはまってんだけど、こんなん入ってんの？グミに失礼だよね！」と“グミ愛”から怒りを表したが、すぐに警察に通報し捜査に全面協力している相撲協会の姿勢は評価。「衝撃といったら衝撃ですよね」と話した。
