On Wednesday morning, several school districts across the state received hoax communications reporting active shooter threats at high schools, triggering lockdowns and fast responses from police.
The caller, who spoke with Central Dispatch at 9:07 a.m., said there was a student on campus with a firearm who had shot multiple students, but Hawaiʻi Island Police said it proved to be a hoax.
These false calls cause distress and raise anxiety levels for all involved. That was especially true in Wednesday's events in Pittsburgh which happened just days after 6 people were shot inside of a Nashville school.
