2021 Mercedes-Benz GLA: What is it? It’s 4:30am. The start of the 2020 Auto Expo is only hours away, but nothing seems ready. Many of the stalls are only partly finished, some look like they are days behind schedule, and then everywhere I look there are construction workers and forklifts scurrying about like squirrels. Then I see it, tucked away in a corner of the Mercedes stall. The nose gives it away instantly. I don’t quite have the right ID, but I stroll in anyway; the activity is so frenzied that no one would notice even if (insert name of favourite actress here) walks past in a bikini.

Those who thought Mercedes would call it a day with electric vehicles following the launch of EQC SUV were wrong. The all-new 2021 Mercedes-Benz EQA is the German luxury automaker s second all-electric model that targets buyers considering the Tesla Model Y. For now, the EQA is an overseas model only but Mercedes hasn t ruled out bringing it to North America. It s likely only a matter of time because the EQA has a lot going for it, from its slick exterior and interior styling, through connectivity and driver-assist systems, to its advanced battery-electric powertrain.
The EQ range of electric vehicles will soon expand even further and the EQA is considered to be the entry-level model. But don t let that fool you; the EQA is a seriously luxury compact crossover in every way. As such, it won t come cheap.
Mercedes-Benz has unveiled the EQA, the new entry-level model for its pure electric EQ car range.
The EQA is a compact SUV, based on a platform, MFA 2, shared with the GLA.
The SUV-styled model is launching with a 190hp electric motor, and a 66.5kWh battery pack, allowing a claimed range of 265 miles on the WLTP cycle.
A battery recharge will take 30 minutes with a rapid DC charger, and five hours 45 minutes with an AC wallbox.
Further powertrain options will subsequently join the range, offering either an increased power output or an extended range, as well as all-wheel drive - the launch model, badged 250, is front-wheel drive.
