Welcome to Seven in Seven, where each Thursday in this space we would typically take a look at concerts coming to the region over the next week. With most shows on hold due to the pandemic, here’s a look at seven of the best albums being released April 16: Alaskan Tapes — For Us Alone The moniker Alaskan Tapes represents Toronto-based composer Brady Kendall’s ever-evolving ambient music project. He wrote the nine songs on For Us Alone in three groups of three, and as a result the music flows cohesively from one track to the next. Exactly three songs feature drums, one in each suite, a technique that helps flesh out the groups and connect them to the whole. Everything was written and recorded in Kendall’s home studio space with strings added remotely by Jonathan Dreyfuss in Berlin, who was the only other musician to play on the album. The recording embraces the imperfect nature in which it was made, from ambient blips that add texture and depth to the low

RYANHOOD PREMIERES NEW TRACK APPY RETURNS

  Award-winning, Tucson, Arizona-based acoustic duo Ryanhood has unveiled their fiery new single, “Appy Returns,” the second from their forthcoming album, Under The Leaves, set for release on April 16th. “Appy Returns” showcases the pair s serious chops as they set their strings ablaze, paying tribute to the music cultivated in the Appalachian Mountains with their own Arizona-style, heat-infused spin. While most of their repertoire is vocal-led, co-founder Ryan David Green says he was inspired by the fretwork of electric guitar-slingers like Joe Satriani and acoustic legends like Béla Fleck. “I love instrumental music,” Green told The Bluegrass Situation. “I came up with the main theme for this one in a green room, just before a show back in 2016. I continued to tinker with it for years until I realized the main motif had some similarities to another instrumental of ours, ‘Appy Jam,’ which is a staple of our live set.
