Barbados’ fastest sprinter Mario Burke says if this year’s Olympic Games set for July 23 – August 8 in Tokyo, Japan are delayed again it will be a major setback to his promising career.
The 23-year-old Nike and Redbull sponsored athlete said he has been waiting to compete on the biggest sporting stage all his life and if the games are pushed back, it could prove to be a massive financial blow.
“I would be very disappointed and it would be disheartening for some athletes because in the sport of athletics not many athletes have the money in terms of support. The Olympics is an event where athletes look to get financial opportunities. For most people, it will be hard, for me it would be tough,” Burke told NATION SPORT recently during a telephone interview from Houston, Texas. (AGB)
