certainly there s not a tone set here. we have a respect for all americans. does kelly sadler still work at this white house? yes, she does. does the president set the tone? does he bear responsibility for the tone within this white house? the president as i mentioned just a moment ago, supports all americans. joining me now, chris whipple author of the gatekeepers and eddie glaude princeton professor and msnbc contributor. eddie, does tone matter? and is it the president s job to set it? absolutely. you know there s a value for civility that allows for the free and i think informed exchange of ideas. but what we ve witnessed and what we re witting, alex, is a kind of death of the heart. where we ve seen, where we ve seen not to be able to extend not only sympathy and empathy, but to accord decency and standing to our interlocutors. and it s sad.
