I think we are proud this is the most rigorously Bipartisan Group in the u. S. House of representatives and we are looking forward to a year of joined a make more progress on an issue that is of great concern to all of us. Just a recap of last year briefly. Last year, the comprehensive addiction and recovery act was passed by the house and the senate and passed into law. And it provided stakeholders resources to combat the heroine and Opioid Epidemic. We passed an act at the end of 114th congress that added an additional 100 billion of funding to combat this epidemic. In both of these were college in no small measure because of the bipartisan work done by this task force. The house rolled out in the course of one week 18 bills that really became the foundation and much of the detail of what was ultimately passed into law. There is still a lot
Get abortions here in texas. Now we must redouble our efforts across the country to end similar restrictions across the state that push abortion out of reach for so many women. It is time to pass proactive state laws so that a woman has access to quality clinics in her community, can afford abortion, and does not face shame or stigma when she six hour care seeks our care. From day one, whole Womens Health rejected hb2 and we fought back. We took on the politicians and we struggled everyday since then against antichoice, progressive politics in our oppositions best effort to shut us down and we won. President bushs nominees, including a large number of District Courts and courts of appeals, and it was actually confirming letting the Senate Confirm nominations right up through september of an Election Year. No, if there were then that did not go through that it was for other reasons. He set, really, a record. Now, contrast that to what happened when george w. Bush was in the last two years of his presidency. I was chairman. So there could be no question on fairness, i put through 68 of his nominees. The republicans have about only 16 of president obamas in the last two years of his presidency, as opposed to the democrats allowing 68 of republican president s. Use any standard you want, republican president s were treated more fairly. Host your republican colleagues would disagree. Senator biden said they should not go forward with a nomination in 1992. Nothing happened in 1992 sen. Leahy no. Host now they are calling it the biden rule. Sen. Leahy yeah, we actually they raised that
A sort of a blatant coverup of sexual abuse cases that some might embarrass the agency. I guess you expose yourself when you send people to foreign lands, or on any mission to any locals, or foreign nationals taking advantage of american personnel. But i think how prevalent is the case of problems with peace corps workers being involved in these instances . Usually its a Host Country National involved in the assaults. From what we gathered, the information we gathered, its usually volunteer in about 47 of the case. How many . 4 . Thats very embarrassing, i would imagine to the agency. You know, again, i think we have a particular position of responsibility to deal with that kind of action. And also, i think you should have that authority to uncover, again, whats going on, and expose it. A couple of questions, because weve the Inspector Generals have been under attack for a number of years now. Several ways of attacking them, one, get rid of them. We went through that in the beginning.
