Houma man serving life sentence in stabbing could get new trial
A Houma man serving life in prison after being convicted of stabbing a woman multiple times could get a new trial because of a non-unanimous jury verdict.
A jury voted 10-2 to convict Karl Justin Nixon, 39, of attempted manslaughter Dec. 6, 2019, following a three-day trial. He had originally been charged with attempted second-degree murder.
The state filed a habitual offender bill against Nixon because of his lengthy criminal history, prosecutors said.
That history includes convictions of possession of cocaine, two counts of simple arson, aggravated assault with a firearm in a domestic violence situation and aggravated battery.
