BAFTA is expanding the competing field for its upcoming Film Awards ceremony in a big way. The British Academy of Film and Television Arts is allowing any title released at any point in 2021 to still be eligible for the upcoming BAFTA Film Awards ceremony this April, which would have normally allowed only 2020 films and any 2021 releases up until April. But with the pandemic pushing many major releases back to this year, the BAFTA eligibility has just opened up wide.
Deadline reports that BAFTA is extending the eligibility period for its Film Awards this year, nixing its usual April 9 cut-off to allow any title released at any point in 2021 to compete at the awards ceremony. The extension also applies to the two categories that were previously extended to April 30, “Film Not In The English Language” and “Documentary.”
