NORFOLK, Va. â Getting Mrs. Emma White to a vaccination clinic for her COVID-19 shot took quite a bit of convincing from her family.
âAt first I really didnât want to get it,â said White. âI donât like to be stuck with a needle. I think that was my biggest hesitant.â
FEMA, the Virginia National Guard and VDH teamed up with community leaders Saturday to set up a one-day, walk-up clinic at Southside STEM Academy at Campostella.
The joint operation in Hampton Roads is the first for the federal agency and National Guard.

NORFOLK, Va. Monday marked the deadline for divisions across the state to submit their back-to-school models.
Governor Ralph Northam said most schools have submitted their plans and they don t foresee any issues right now. He said so far, COVID-19 rates in schools with in-person learning are not showing any significant spikes.

NORFOLK, Va.â Students received a warm welcome back to Southside STEM Academy at Campostella after an entire year away.
Norfolk Public Schools remained closed throughout the pandemic, but now the first wave of students are meeting their teachers in-person for the first time Monday.
âIâve only said hello this morning as they came in the door and itâs just hard to not run up and hug them and welcome them back,â said math specialist Jason Koonce.
Class is in session and in person for the first time in the district since schools Governor Ralph Northam ordered schools to close last March.
