The vote was designed to exclude the possibility of expressing opposition to the deal. The union worded the ballot so that a “no” vote meant accepting the administration’s terms.
No doubt there were many people opposed to the contract and who wanted to continue the strike who voted “yes” or abstained, since the ballot stated a “no” vote meant accepting terms imposed by management.
The electronic ballot presented workers with a false choice between either accepting the concessionary agreement or allowing the previous offer to be imposed by management.
More details on the contract will emerge soon, but the CFA’s supposed “highlights” already point to major concessions in favor of the California State University system.
