district, in fact. you actually can t go by this special election. the fact is the senate landscape looks very dangerous for democrats. the fact that the president is more unpopular than he s ever been in his entire tenure and the fact the aca rollout has been a terrible failure, means the republicans will get to paint democrats with this brush. there s no way to escape it. i think that s really, really dangerous for the senate hopes of the democrats. and the crystal ball you have is history. historically the second midterm goes poorly for the party of the president. other than bill clinton in 1998, these don t go well. the whole thick abong about tsunami of ads, that s really a concern. money isn t the only thing that wins elections, but it s a lot of it. if democrats don t get into the game, it s going to be very, very dangerous for these democratic senate candidates and senate incumbents. we have democrat super pacs
we largely on our tv saw the end of prohibition this past week. what is the how big a test, i guess, the question is then is colorado. is there potential something could go wrong here, that might stall the momentum? much like the aca rollout, it is inevitable, something will go wrong, someone will smack their car into a bush and that will be used as a scalp to say this was wrong all along. but fact is this is capitalism, regulated capitalism, this is democracy, this is conservative values. washington grew hemp. jefferson grew hemp. you could pay your taxes for over 200 years in this country from industrial hemp. the ama went on the record against it because they knew of its health properties as a painkiller. used in colonial days as a painkiller. i say decriminalizing cannabis and not locking people up for a flower that grew here long before white people arrived is the conservative point of view. though there is the american medical association, in
jonestown comments which podesta has come out and apologized for straightaway, which was probably a sign of a guy who gets out ahead of things anyway, it is an indication of where his mind is. this is the way the republican party has worked. if we re going to get anything done in what is left of the second term which hasn t started great, we re going to have to do it ourselves, not by republicans but by executive order. another thing interested, clinton, is there a stage in second terms where you ve lost people with longevity to you, gibbs, who could go in and say, plp, that s a bad idea. syria. aca rollout, you have to fix this, make sure we re not launching something that doesn t work. maybe podesta is the person going in. he s only going for a year, doesn t have much at stake, not a career person in the white house. he can say, no.
thanks for having me. how would you characterize the way broadly the aca rollout is going, and specifically what you guys were trying to achieve today in this sum met mit with moms. obviously, a roque start but things are going better with the website. things are going better. and we heard stories today from moms who met with the president and first lady and talked in very personal terms about a child that was born with a tumor and how this mom was worried since he was an infant he was going to have preexisting conditions and not be able to get health coverage throughout his life. another mom talked about how her adult son races motorcycles and show loses sleep over him not having health insurance. we heard about the relief of moms because their kids could stay on their plan until age 26. these were very personal stories from women who were very often the people making health care decisions for their families. so it was a personal conversation, but a conversation about what matte
presidents. you and i talked about this before, one of the things i respect so much about this president and the way that he is conducting himself and the presidency is the willingness to actually govern, even when folks are trying to get him on something. so the great example is the syria red line. and he says, okay, maybe i said that. but the real question here is whether it is in our interests. and even in the interests of the syrian people for us to intervene. so whatever i said you re going to have to live with that. we re going to actually assess here. but i will say that there is still a part of me at this moment who, i m deeply concerned with the number of democrats who do seem to be abandoning the president, and any extent to which the administration gives on this. and it s only to this. part of the reason the necessity of the shutdown was the recognition that the republican opposition is not there because it wants to fix obama care. right. it s not there because it want
