However, with the private builder withdrawing from this initiative, the saplings are withering away due to a lack of water and maintenance for the last week. The residents are urging the authorities concerned to make arrangements for the maintenance of the green space between Gurudwara Junction and the Junction of Thiruvalluvar statue on Gangadhara Chetty Road.
Residents of Seegehalli and environmentalists complain against the apathy of the minor irrigation department engineers to protect and preserve the lake from being encroached upon by people with political clout. It is also alleged that a few builders who developed the layouts in the vicinity of the lake are encouraging the contractors and truck drivers to dump C&D material on the lake bund.
“For more than two years, we have been escalating the issue of sewage entry into the lake. The entire sewage line on the 2nd main road of Soudhamini layout, which is more than 15 years old, is to be changed with bigger size pipes along with large chambers,” said Soundarajan, a resident who lives near the Doddakallasandra lake.
