Akkar, Lebanon, Apr 23 (EFE).- The clock strikes 19.14 at a Syrian refugee camp in Lebanon, but there’s no sign that it is time to break the fast of the holy month of Ramadan. Without much food or the presence of their loved ones, this special time is even harder than the rest of the year.
In a stiflingly hot tent that is completely bare save for two small mats laid out on the floor, Abu Yaser and his seven children wait for their mother to finish frying a small handful of cauliflower, potato and eggplant to break the fast for the evening Iftar meal.

The Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) has deployed Peshmerga forces to northern Iraq to combat “increased threats” of attacks by Islamic State (ISIS), Kurdish news outlet Rudaw reported on Thursday.
The Peshmerga are the military forces of Iraq’s autonomous Kurdistan region. They have recently been deployed to Makhmour and Qarachogh, areas located within the Kurdistan region’s Erbil Governorate, to combat a renewed ISIS security threat “and not to face off with Iraqi forces,” the Ministry of Peshmerga clarified in a statement on Wednesday.
“We announce that no illegal deployment of the Peshmerga forces has been made to face Iraqi forces,” a statement from the ministry read, adding, “What happened was as a result of a recent increase of ISIS threats in the Mount Qarachogh and Makhmour areas.”
2 ISIS Terrorists, Including Senior Leader, Killed in Iraq: Prime Minister
Iraqi Prime Minister Mustafa Al-Kadhimi announced on Feb. 2 that security forces killed two ISIS-linked terrorists the group’s commander in southern Iraq and an individual who facilitated suicide bomb attacks.
“The terrorist Abu Hassan al-Gharibawi, the so-called leader of southern Iraq in Daesh, and the terrorist Ghanem Sabah Jawad, who is responsible for transporting suicide bombers, were both eliminated today, in addition to other terrorist elements,” Kadhimi wrote in a tweet, referring to ISIS by an Arabic acronym Daesh.
“These victories are part of our heroes’ pledge to eliminate the leaders of Daesh gangs & in loyalty to the Iraqi martyrs’ blood,” Kadhimi wrote. “Our security forces have made us proud. Long live Iraq.”

A pair of RAF Typhoon FGR4s conducted simultaneous attacks using two Paveway IV guided bombs to kill the terrorists based in two caves near Bayji, a city 130 miles north of Baghdad.
The attack comes just days after Iraq said an airstrike had killed an ISIS commander in Iraq who had claimed to be the leader of the terror group in the country.
A coalition surveillance aircraft had located a number of ISIS fighters on January 24 and the two fighter jets were tasked to strike them, according to a statement by the Ministry of Defence.
