Trader killed, 29 cows raided in Duk County attacks
A cattle trader was killed and 29 cows raided in two separate attacks carried out by a group of armed men in Duk County of Jonglei State on Sunday, a local official said.
Speaking to Radio Tamazuj Monday, Elijah Manyok Ayiei, the acting Duk County commissioner, said, “In the first incident, 11 cows belonging to a person called Thon Ding Duot was stolen while at a grazing area on the outskirts of the Pobokoi area, Duk Padiet town.
He added, On the same day, a cattle trader identified as Atem Kuer Atem was intercepted with his 18 cows between the areas of Pagak and Padiet. The criminals killed the trader and took his cows.”
Over 3,000 cows stolen in Nyirol County
More than 3,000 cows were stolen by a group of armed men in parts of Nyirol County of Jonglei State on Thursday afternoon, authorities said.
“On Thursday afternoon, some armed group raided grazing fields at the villages Guer, Leek, Ngarjok and Payilieth in Pading Payam, Uror County. The gunmen took about 3,950 cows while grazing at those fields,” Makuei Puok Bai, the acting Nyirol County commissioner told Radio Tamazuj Thursday evening.
The local official pointed out that the county youth have pursued the attackers to retrieve the stolen animals.
Puok said, “Our youth are still pursuing those criminals to get back the stolen animals. Fighting is ongoing, and we have yet to receive the details.”
