MANILA - The country has logged 82,597 dengue cases from January 1 to July 16 this year, 106 percent higher than the figure in the same period in 2021, the Department of Health (DOH) said Tuesday. In a Viber message to reporters, the DOH noted that cases for the same period last year totaled 40,096. A total of 319 deaths due to dengue were reported nationwide 36 in January; 31 in February; 39 in March; 46 in April; 63 in May; 72 in June; and 32 in July. Most of the dengue cases were reported in Central Luzon with 13,449 or 16 percent; Western Visayas, 8,905 or 11 percent; and the National Capital Region (NCR), 6,884 or 8 percent. For the period of June 19 to July 16, about 20,261 cases were recorded. Of the tally, 4,629 or 23 percent were from Central Luzon; 2,151 or 11 percent from Cagayan Valley; and 1,985 or 10 percent from the NCR.
